Clapton didn’t record or play until 1971 when Harrison organized a benefit concert in New York for Bangladesh. Clapton is said to have struggled to stay upright during his performance. Clapton, on the other hand, staged a return performance in January 1973, and it appears that preparing for it aided his recovery from addiction.
