Growing Up Without Parents
Clapton’s grief at Conor’s death may have been heightened by the fact that he was reared without a mother or father. Clapton’s father, Canadian soldier Edward Fryer, went out with Clapton’s mother, Pat Clapton, in 1944. Pat, on the other hand, was only 15 years old and had no plans to become a mother. Clapton’s mother, you see, relocated to Canada with another man when he was a youngster.

As a result, Clapton grew up believing that his grandmother Rose was his mother. And he’s misidentified Pat as an elder sister when she shows up, which she does on occasion. Clapton, on the other hand, was troubled by his father’s departure, as he penned “My Father’s Eyes” in his father’s memory in 1988.
