Realization
It was one of those days in Australia when Clapton was pent up in his hotel room by himself. He was alone with his thoughts, his agony, and his anguish. It was at this point that he recognized he needed to return and get therapy, not just for himself, but also for Conor. He desired a healthy connection with his son, one in which they could bond, rather than one in which he was constantly worrying about when he might have his next drink.

Return To Hazelden
Although there was a sense of déjà vu in that he was returning to confront his drinking problems, it was different this time around. Whereas he may have had some misgivings about what had led him there the first time, he was more than aware this time. He had tried and failed to manage his drinking. He required assistance as well as a significant adjustment in his life.
